UTG C - Corrosion Probe Measures the wall thickness of materials such as steel, plastic and more. Ideal for measuring the effects of corrosion or erosion on tanks, pipes, or any structure where access is limited to one side
UTG M - Multiple-Echo Probe Features ThruâÃêPaint capability to quickly and accurately measure the metal thickness of a painted structure without having to remove the coating. The most accurate method to measure the remaining wall thickness of a painted structure because it automatically disregards the coating, lowering inspection time and expense. Also ideal for measuring on sandblasted materials or other applications requiring a durable wear face.

| Q. Should I purchase the PosiTector UTG Std or PosiTector UTG ME? |
| A |

| Q. Why is it necessary to eliminate the coating thickness to get an accurate indication of remaining wall thickness? |
| A. Due to the acoustic differences between paint and metal, a layer of coating on metal will tend to make the metal appear thicker than actual. For best accuracy, remove the coating or eliminate it with a Multiple Echo gage (UTG ME). |
| Q. Why does the PosiTector UTG ME include both Multiple and Single Echo operating modes? |
| A. Multiple Echo mode eliminates coatings from thickness measurements. Even when there is no coating it produces repeatable, accurate measurements by averaging 3 or more back wall reflections. Single Echo mode has better sensitivity for detecting pits & flaws. It also increases the measurement range of the gage. |
| Q. Can the PosiTector UTG store or print data? |
| A. Yes. Both PosiTector UTG models have an internal memory of 10,000 readings in up to a 1,000 batches which can be viewed on the LCD, printed to an IR wireless printer (option) or downloaded to a PC using PosiSoft software (option). |
| Q. How is the PosiTector UTG calibrated at DeFelsko? |
| A. The PosiTector UTG is calibrated against known standards using NIST traceable standards. A Certificate of Calibration containing actual thickness measurements is included with every gage. |
| Q. How do I make calibration adjustments to PosiTector Ultrasonic Thickness Gages? |
A. Using the user-friendly menu, the PosiTector UTG can be easily adjusted for a particular material in one of four ways...
| Q. What is IP5X? |
A. An Ingress Protection number or IP is used to specify the environmental protection of enclosures around electronic equipment. The NEW PosiTector UTG is rated IP5X indicating protection against dust ingress. The dust test for IP5X is conducted in a dust chamber for 8 hours, with talcum powder (2kg per cubic meter of the test chamber) circulating, so it continually falls down onto the equipment under test. The IP rating system has been in use in Europe and other countries outside of North America for many years. |
| Q. Can PosiTector 6000 or 200 probes be attached to the PosiTector UTG? |
| A. No. Although the PosiTector UTG shares many of the same features as the PosiTector 6000 and PosiTector 200 and has a similar appearance, probes are not interchangeable. A PosiTector UTG probe will not work on a PosiTector 6000 or 200, and a PosiTector 6000 or 200 probe will not work on a PosiTector UTG. |
