Q. Are there different models of the PosiTector PC to choose from?
A. No. There is 1 model consisting of an Advanced gage body and probe (ordering code: PC3-E). You can purchase the probe separately (ordering code: PRBPC) for use with Advanced gage bodies with serial numbers greater than 700,000 (manufactured after April 2011).
Q. What has changed from the previous versions?
A. The PosiTector PC probe remains unchanged with the same range, resolution and accuracy. The PosiTector PC contains all of the ââ¬â¹features of the Advanced gage body including...
Q. Can I purchase a new PosiTector PC probe for my existing PosiTector Advanced gage body?
A. Yes. PosiTector Advanced gage bodies manufactured after April 2011 with serial numbers greater than 700,000 support the NEW PosiTector PC probe. Simply update your existing PosiTector by following step by step instructions at www.defelsko.com/update. The PosiTector PC probe will NOT work on Standard gage bodies.
Q. Can I use my previous generation PosiTector PC probe on my new model PosiTector gage body?
A. Yes. A quick reset will allow the PC probe to communicate with all new gage bodies. Once reset, however, the PC probe will be unable to communicate with the previous generation gage body unless both are returned for service.
Q. Can I connect other probes?
A. Yes. The PosiTector PC accepts all PosiTector probes easily converting from measuring uncured powder to cured dry film thickness, surface profile, and more.
Q. What are the optional accessories?
A. Replacement Probe Screens (Qty. 2) to protect the probe transducer, Bluetooth Printer battery-operated printer receives measurement data, AC Power Cable provides continuous operation or battery charging works in any country, Rechargeable Batteries a set of eneloop NiMH AAA batteries, Hard Shell Inspection Case durable carry case, Protective Lens Shield (Pkg of 5) protect the display from overspray
Q. Does the PosiTector PC conform to existing standards and test methods?
A. Yes. The PosiTector PC complies with ASTM D7378, Standard Practice for Measurement of Thickness of Applied Coating Powders to Predict Cured Thickness.
Q. Why measure uncured powder?
A. Coatings must be applied within certain minimum and maximum dry film thickness specifications. But waiting to measure coating thickness after curing can result in product waste and production delays. Accurate measurement at the time of application:
Q. Can I purchase a complete solution for measuring powder coating before and after cure?
A. Yes. NEW PosiTector Powder Inspection Kits are available. Each kit contains a PosiTector Advanced gage body, PosiTector PC uncured powder thickness probe, user-selected PosiTector 6000 coating thickness probe and the 2 most popular DeFelsko Powder Combs.
Q. How do you operate the PosiTector PC?
A. Turn both the probe and gage body on, press the probe button and hold it 18 mm (0.75ââ¬Â) from the part for 2 to 5 seconds. The predicted cured thickness result immediately appears on both the probe and gage body displays.
Q. How does it work?
A. The probe uses ultrasound to non-destructively analyze applied powder in seconds. Information passes between the probe and the gage body via a fast Bluetooth wireless connection.
Q. Is there a Certificate of Calibration?
A. No. Certificates of Calibration show traceability to a National Standard and no dry powder thickness standard exists at this time. The PosiTector PC Powder Checker is an in-process tool. To confirm final thickness meets specification, measure the cured coating with a PosiTector 6000 dry film thickness probe. A Certificate of Calibration is included with every PosiTector 6000 probe.
Q. Can the PosiTector PC store or print data?
A. Yes. The PosiTector PC features PosiSoftî USB Drive for storing readings and to download stored readings to a PC or Mac. Additionally, readings can be synchronized with PosiSoft.net (formerly PosiTector.net) for storing, printing or sharing with authorized users. Also features data transfer via WiFi to a personal computer or via Bluetooth to a personal computer or optional Bluetooth printer.
Q. What is PosiSoft.net?
A. A cloud based web application offering secure centralized management of thickness readings. It allows the user to upload readings, download images, manipulate data, generate reports and graphs, share data with other authorized users, and export data to XML and text files. See http://www.defelsko.com/PosiSoftNET/ for more details.
Q. Are there alternative ways to measure uncured powder?
A. Yes. Handy, inexpensive powder combs are available. Coating powders diminish in thickness during the curing process, so measuring powder height in the pre-cured, pre-gelled state requires a correlation factor be calculated and applied to every measurement for every powder. Two popular Powder Comb models are included with each PosiTector Powder Inspection Kit.
Q. Can I measure cured powder thickness with the PosiTector post cure?
A. Yes. Simply connect a PosiTector 6000 dry film thickness probe to measure the cured powder coating thickness.
Q. Does the PosiTector PC imprint or dimple the powder?
A. No contact is made during measurement and there are no cables to accidentally brush and disturb the powder.
Q. How far away can the wireless probe be from the gage body to measure remotely?
A. The wireless probe has a range of 10m (30 ft.).
Q. What happens if I move the probe further than 10m (30ft) from the gage body?
A. Communication between both units will temporarily cease if they are moved beyond radio range of each other. The probe will simply stop working but will resume operation when brought back within radio range of the gage body.
Q. How do I know that the gage body has received my readings?
A. The instrument will not operate unless the probe and gage body are communicating with each other. Set-up is simple. Each measurement result is displayed on both the probe and gage body. Both units beep and flash simultaneously. Both will power-down automatically after a period of no activity.
Q. Can I pair the probe with another Bluetooth device?
A. No. The data transmitted between the probe and the gage body is secure . Neither the probe nor gage body can be paired with another Bluetooth device. The probe will only communicate with an Advanced gage body.
Q. Do I have to hold the probe steady during measurement?
A. No. In fact, the instrument performs best when there is slight movement. It was designed to measure moving parts on hooks.
Q. When measuring, the result on the probe and gage body occasionally changes by several digits after I remove my finger from the probe. Is this
A. Yes, this is normal operation. There is a queue of samples that are still being processed after the button is released.
Q. What types of batteries are used?
A. The wireless probe uses 3 AA alkaline batteries. The gage body uses 3 AAA alkaline batteries. Battery icons display a full bar with fresh alkaline batteries installed. As the batteries weaken, the bar will be reduced. When the battery icon is low, the instrument can still be used, but the batteries should be changed at the earliest opportunity.
